19-01-20 A League Charlbury Town 5 v 2 BAMPTON

Charlbury Town 5 v 2 BAMPTON

Bit of a summer friendly feel about today's match. Sun was out, bit of a drive around because of last minute venue change and the quarter final between both teams in two weeks time looming heavy in both camps.

Pitch was probably the worst we have played on, just a rung above what we have to train on every week. Mud soaked and sodden meant the ball wasn't rolling or bouncing as intended made for a challenging afternoon.

First half, we totally outplayed them, some lovely passing and support play showed how far we have came in our football in last few seasons.Charlbury went long at every occassion, their coach urging them to play the ball over the top every time they had possession.Against run of play, they went in 1 up at half time.

Second half started much the same, but pitch now proving difficult for our players to keep their feet and pass it around. Then we seems to switch off.We stopped making challenges and our work rate dropped well below what is needed to compete.Charlbury scored 4 in 15 minutes.

We spoke before the game about the only thing in each of our control is how hard we work. We can't, on the day, control team mates, opposition or how we'll we can kick a football. But each of us can control how much we run and how much we fight, our desire to win.

We changes things slightly and went to an unorthodox 3 - 4 - 3 and we came back to life. Everyone played like how we started the game. We won every ball and wave after wave assaulted their penalty box. 2 goals in last 10 mins and pressing for more showed what we can achieve.

Goals Archie and Angus(beautiful lob from outside box) .
